The theme of a coming GOP crackup because of a purge by conservatives seems a bit mixed up. Juan Williams points out that Bob McDonnell focused on “bread and butter” issues, not social ones. Charlie Crist in Florida, though, is trying to save his campaign for the GOP primary by focusing on being pro-life, pro-gun, etc. But the Tea Party leaders are gunning for him mainly for his support of the $800B Porkulus bill and embrace of President Obama. Dede Scozzafava was objectionable to conservatives b/c of her support for EFCA and PelosiCare. It’s small government that’s going to be the driving issue, in my opinion.
